Hi, my name is JJ Watkins on behalf of the ESL newpaper, and today we are taking the time to meet with the general manager of the Colorado Avalanche.
I Have a couple Questions for you.
1) When did you begin your dream to become an NHL general manager, and how is the experience so far?
AVS GM: I knew at the age of 17 that hockey was going to be my focus. My ability to recall specific draft picks, trades including the days they were announced and so much useless hockey facts that have only played a factor for me when I am in a hockey debate have impacted my decision to follow this direction for a career.
2) In the future, what teams would you like to manage? or is the one you are at now is your favorite job in the world?
AVS GM: I cannot say more of how much I love my job here in Colorado. The direction this team has taken in progressing for success is undoubtedly brilliant and I look forward to the challenges we will face together as a franchise.
3) What is your favorite NHL team?
AVS GM: The Maple Leafs were in my blood, but now that I am currently employed by the Colorado Avalanche, I’ve had the pleasure of studying some of our prospects and working with greats like Sakic and Forsberg. I can’t ask for a better team to be a part of with so much history and I’m glad I’m bleeding a little purple now too.
4) So far in ESL, free agency has blown by, and many trades have been done. Are you happy with the moves you have made to improve your team? Has your team improved?
AVS GM: I think the moves we’ve made has been to get younger and more skillful. Bringing in Brule and Pisani was a decision we had to make on dealing some picks and youth, but the return was too good to pass up. Landing a few players in free agency has also bettered our team but we’re always open to make more moves. We’re looking to deal away another centerman and a defensemen for some wingers for the time being and lowering the cap slightly.
5) What has been your favorite move and why?
AVS GM: Bringing in Brule has significantly secured our center position.
6) Which team do you believe has the greatest chance of winning it all this season?
AVS GM: I like to hope we do, but it’s a pretty open avenue.
Thank - you to the General Manager of the Colorado Avalanche!
